Persea americana (B) - Bacon Avocado
Fast growing tree, bears fruit at an early age. Produces heavy crop of medium oval fruit with thin, smooth skin.
Matures: May - July.
Pollination: Type B - Self fertile but benefits from cross pollination with Hass, Reed, Wurtz or Pinkerton. Pollinated by bees. Pollination will be adversely affected if Spring temperatures are below 10 at night and below 20 during the day.
Growing Regions: The most cold hardy variety. Avocadoes are prone to root rot, so require well-drained soils but also need irrigation in dry months.
Size: Can grow to 6m, but should be pruned after harvest to keep at 3m.
